SERGIO POLANCO

Sergio Polanco a native of Guatemala, is the founder and editor-in-chief of Conexiones Diversity Bilingual Magazine which provides educational information, entertainment, employment opportunities and news to the community. Polanco is responsible for the magazine's overall business strategy including developing strategic partnerships, content production and graphic design.

In 2014, Conexiones Magazine started as a Spanish-language only publication that reached Hagerstown, Martinsburg and Chambersburg. With its increased demand, Conexiones is now distributed in various counties within Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania with stories published in Spanish, English, Romanian and Chinese. On September 8, 2015 Sergio Polanco received “Negocio del Año” 2015 Hispanic Stellar Award for the State of Maryland. Polanco is a community leader and the founder of multiple enterprises. In February 2014, he created “Café Conexiones,” a series of networking meetings for minority and women-owned businesses held at Hagerstown Community College. “Café Conexiones” is now also held in Frederick, Silver Spring, DMV area and Annapolis MD where he relocated now with his family due to the expansion of Conexiones market to the DMV and Anne Arundel County area. Polanco also launched ConexionesRadio, an online, local radio show that features news and podcasts on important community issues.

In May 2016 launched ConexionesKids featuring bilingual educational tools for children, parents and teachers in partnership with Highlights Magazine, the most popular Kids magazine in the USA. Sergio Polanco is presently the host of “Connecting Annapolis”, a television program on the Annapolis City television station, interviewing bilingual guests such as healthcare professionals, business owners, and government officials that have a social, economical and cultural impact on the viewers. On August 19, 2016, during Premios Latin Community Gala, Sergio Polanco was awarded ‘La revista del Año” for the DMV and the Tri-State Area.

  • Dr. Rodriguez practiced Emergency Medicine for over 20 years and was residency trained at the University of California at San Francisco. He completed a Fellowship in Primary Sports Medicine at the University of California in San Diego and certified In Age Management Medicine. In addition to his Emergency Medicine practice as Director of Emergency Medicine Services , he worked in the Department 0f Orthopedics of Patuxent Medical Group.

  • Mark J. Hoffmann Vice President – Board Role Vice President – Job Title at work Mark has 20 years banking and retail executive leadership experience. He currently manages multiple locations in Annapolis, AA County, as a VP for Capital One Bank. Areas of expertise are small business lending, credit, and managing cash flow. He has also served as a multi-unit leader and Store Director for national retailers JC Penney and Circuit City. Mark has worked with the Center since 2014. He enjoys being involved in, and working to give back to the local community. He and his family are long term residents of Annapolis.

  • Waleska Casiano initiated her career as an Attorney for the General Services Administration (GSA) in Puerto Rico as the Director of the Legal Office. In November 2013, Waleska opened her private practice as an immigration attorney in Crofton, Maryland. She works with the Hispanic community in Maryland. Also Waleska became a board member for the Center of Help, a non-profit organization to help the immigrant community in Anne Arundel County. Waleska offers free consultations once a month.

  • Ms. Rodriguez is the owner of Caliente Grill in Annapolis and the Hispanic Liaison for the City of Annapolis. Ms. Rodriguez is fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish, along with having an extensive knowledgeable of the public school system education and the opportunities for students’ achievements.
